Stuff have announced the arrival of their newest publication Waikato Local, which has commenced publishing from 3 July 2024 and will consolidate and replace the South Waikato News, Piako Post, Hamilton Press and Matamata Chronicle. It is a new wide distribution community newspaper for the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.

Further recent changes are the closures of Northern News, Taupo Times, Whangarei Leader and North Taranaki Midweek, and the merger of Upper Hutt Leader into the Hutt News at the end of June; and Sunday News will cease publishing on 28 July 2024.

Ashburton Guardian are consolidating their Thursday and Saturday publication days into a new Fridays “The Weekender” edition from 19 July.
