NZME is in the process of incorporating the Gisborne Herald, the community title Weekend Sun and other Sun Media titles in the Bay of Plenty into their portfolio of publications.

King Country News in the central North Island has been sold to Good Local Media.

Allied Press have acquired the Blenheim Sun, in Marlborough.

Stuff have launched the newest publication in their stable: Southern Outlook in Southland. They have also merged the Northern News and Bay Chronicle to Northen News; the Nelson Leader and Tasman Leader to The Nelson Tasman Leader; and Saturday Express and Marlborough Midweek to the Weekend Express. Hauraki Herald has ceased publishing in March, and Kapiti Observer will stop in April.
